On the road in France, we were sent an article in a French paper reporting that the US government has banned the import of French foie gras and processed meats, on the grounds that sanitation was not up to snuff. We had just visited a cheese operation in Provence and witnessed the extraordinary lengths the French go to to insure safety--unannounced inspections several times a year and very high standards in general.
The French, once again, are not happy with les Americains, by which they mean the government not you and me. Their government is known for the seriousness with which it takes food safety and quality.
