John Kerry's Ketchup Connection

catsupinthecloudsthumbDemocratic Presidential hopeful John Kerry is married to the former Theresa Heinz, widow of Heinz ketchup heir, John Heinz. Here is some information on the history of ketchup...the condiment that made the potential future First Lady of the USA one of the wealthiest women in the world. She is also an important philantropist. Click here to visit the Heinz Family Foundation.

Even before the world knew about tomatoes, there was ketchup. The word "ketchup" comes from the Siamese word kechiap, a tangy sauce made of pickled fish. It was first prepared in the 1600s and spread through the region. In the 1700s, British sailors took it from Singapore to England. They spelled it "ketchup," and tried to duplicate it. When they couldn't, they substituted other ingredients, including ground mushrooms, walnuts, and cucumbers. The earliest recipe for "tomato catsup" didn't appear until 1792, and in 1841 Charles Dickens wrote about "lamb chops breaded with ketchup" in "Barnaby Rudge." In 1876, German-American chef and businessman Henry Heinz made the first mass-produced and bottled tomato ketchup. (from Christian Science Monitor)

well at least it means that kerry's not in it for the money - but it does however imply he has a bottomless pit of funding ;-) being from the UK i wasnt aware of the heinz link until very recently, but does this revelation mean the american public will take more to kerry?
