The greenhouse-from-Hell is up, fully up and running, and actually occupied by young seedlings as well as baby chicks. What's not to like! For those of you who live near the Poland, Maine farm, there are still a few openings in the CSA program. ( Contact Sonya, [email protected])
Perhaps more importantly, the garlic ( above) is poking through its bed of seaweed, having finally tossed off the last (?) of the snow. Don't know about you, but I prefer homegrown garlic, rather than the symmetrical, fully white, perfectly formed heads in wide distribution from our pals in China.
Spring is a good time to be planting plants and vegetation because its a fresh start of a new season were in plants will bloom.

Fennel! I forget about fennel. Good idea.

I bought some fresh garlic in Calais, but I forgot to put it into the soup I made last night! Fortunately, I get to rectify my mistake tonight and add it to the leftover, along with some red wine and fennel.

You are going to find an ecologically correct way to ship some garlic and other sturdy crops out West, right?

Thanks for another mention! The garlic is doing great...I can detect more growth every day. It's our first rainy day today in about 3 weeks, so we're taking a much-needed break. However, strawberry and raspberry plants are in, plus transplanted lettuces, onions, and kale. Direct seeded carrots, turnips, and peas, too. Here we go! If you live in the area and would like to join the CSA, act now. We only have 10 shares left!
